Hello. I can't seem to think of any books that illustrate all of Gorham's "Japanese" and "Antique Hammered & Applied 2" variations. Note: this is not the Applied pattern w/copper & brass berries and leaves; there was a second mixed metal type pattern, called "Antique Ham. & App. 2" in Turner's book(1st ed. p.101, last pattern on last row); from what I've seen, #2 appears to have sea or water motifs. I've attached a pic of a Hammered & Applied #2 handle on a piece I have which shows a flying brass crane & a copper marsh.

The point of this message: please post pics of different "Japanese" or "Hammered & Applied #2" if you have any.

Here's my pic:

Thanks,
Paul

I just remembered that the new Tiffany flatware book shows a grouping of Gorham "Japanese" flatware to illustrate the pattern variety; does this photo show all of Gorham's "Japanese" variations?

Paul.

Fig. 259 in the book Tiffany Silver Flatware... does not show all the motifs in Gorham's Japanese pattern. In his book, Gorham Silver, Carpenter says there are five motifs (p. 84 in the Rev. Ed.), but I have seen at least a dozen, and there may be others.
