I have a demitasse spoon which may be Martele. It has the Gorham trademarks - lion, anchor, G - and also a number stamp of 572. There is also some kind of engraving towards the top of the handle - not intials, but more of a figure type thing with straight lines. The spoon is very much Art Nouveau in design - very curvy. Has anyone any ideas on this or where I could research it more? Thanks.

This is a coffee spoon, not a demitasse spoon, as I originally posted.

Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that your spoon is Martele. Martele flatware is largely confined to large serving pieces, and there are few of those. Other than that, Martele spoons were made to accompany some Martele children's sets, and one full set of rather plain flatware was made. Your pattern number, 572, also does not fit with the numbering scheme of Martele.

On the other hand, the fact that your piece has a pattern number indicates that it is probably a "not-full-line" pattern, and may be quite scarce. Gorham did make some art nouveau flatware that closely mimics the hand-made Martele style; I suspect you have an example.

Thanks so much for the information. It was nice thinking it was Martele for a while, though!
