I've inherited a pair of Gorham Sterling Candlesticks and would appreciate any info re. age, etc.. They stand about 10 1/4" tall to the decorative tops (which come off) and have an art nouveau flower/vine motif. The bases are stamped "Athenic" and "STERLING" and "A3355" along with three tiny makers marks of which the only legible one is the middle, which is an anchor. Help!!

I hope you can provide a photo of your candlesticks. It sounds as if they could be part of the Athenic line introduced by Gorham about 1901. This line was designed as an Art line to complement Gorham's Martele line. Unlike Martele, which was handmade, the Athenic line was made by a combination of machine and handwork.

Rather stunning pair, I hope you realize how fortunate you are to own these. If I may suggest, write down everything you know about them and don't rely on an oral history.
