The book on Gorham that I like is Gorham Silver, 1831-1981. by Charles Carpenter Jr. It has been revised to a 1997 edition but very difficult to find. Try looking on this forum for it, or do a google search. I found mine in my library. You might try an inter-library request for it. I know ebay has many reprints for sale on their flatware. The A I believe indicates a special order. It may date from the "19 teens". Can you tell us what the piece is, that may help.
