First, greetings to our newest moderator. Welcome aboard the most entertaining and informative silver board on the web!

Now, to business (or obsession, in this case):
I picked up what I suppose is a tomato (buckwheat cake?) server at the Salvation Army. The pattern is a threaded fiddleback with a nine lobed stylized shell at the end of the handle. The business end is 3" across and pierced in a snowflake design. It is marked TIFFANY & CO - diamond - STERLING - diamond - PAT. C. Can you supply a pattern name and approximate date of its introduction?

I wish I could help, but I have never seen a pattern such as you describe. Nor have I seen a piece of Tiffany flatware marked "PAT. C."

As it happens, I found it in an old catalog just yesterday. It is called Old Thread & Shell and was introduced in 1905. Nice design. If I ever serve sliced tomatoes it will come in handy.

To wev: Would love to know which catalog you found the piece in. Thanks.

Sorry, should have been more specific. It was not a Tiffany catalog, but from a dealer's shop in San Francisco about 1970 or so. I did get a message from a friend that the pattern is available at the Silver Warehouse (www.silverwarehouse.com), which shows a picture of the pattern under "Shell & Thread." Unfortunately they don't list a tomato slice, so I can't see how well I did for my $2.50 investment.
