I just purchased a set of 6 cordials on ebay and they are beautiful. They are marked Tiffany & Co 20947 Makers 8801 Sterling Silver 925-1000 followed by a cursive capital M. Does this maker ring a bell with you?

I understand that Dr. Hood's book deals with flatware only. I also have a rather ornate Tiffany sterling letter opener I purchased at a local auction. Could you recommend a Tiffany book that is available for purchase?

I have learned so much just from reading all the mail in the silvers forums. Thanks for all you do.

The capital M mark indicates that your cordial cups were made sometime between the time that Tiffany began to make its own silver (1869) and 1891, the year when Edward C. Moore, who was head of Tiffany's silver department, died.

The other major book about Tiffany silver is Charles H. Carpenter Jr. with Grace Carpenter, "Tiffany Silver," a revised ed. of which was published by Alan Wofsy Fine Arts of San Francisco, 1997.

Thank you kindly for the information about the cordials and for the book reference.
