Found 2 pieces of State House Silver today. It is sterling and the pattern is Inargural. My slim research shows all the patterns I found were sterling by this maker, c 1940s. One place said that it was one of 3 patterns made by Onieda and not distributed in jewelry or department stores. Facts or Fiction? Any information would be interesting and help us beginning collectors.

Suppossedly this was sold on a party plan like Tupperware. It was a fairly common method used in small towns to bring silver, china and crystal to places where the local jeweler did not carry an inventory. I have encountered a number of such selling programs. Usually the maker was Oneida, but the pattern was owned by the selling company. And usually there were coordinating china and crystal as well. People tend to be very loyal and fond of these patterns. And they tend to come with charming anecdotes. Frequently, the High School home ec teacher was the party giver and senior girls the buyers.

Now that makes sense. Thanks. The names State House and Inagural had me thinking in a whole other direction. heh
