I don't have a piece of this, but I can remember seeing an incredible (somewhat campy) colonial revival flatware sterling pattern that featured an eagle with outspread wings. I seem to remember it in a catalogue from a retailer dated about 1902. Does anyone know anything about this pattern?

Retailer Daniel Low, famous for the witch spoons, sold a variation of Madam Royale, custom made by Durgin with a very patriotic looking eagle with outstretched wings replacing the frills at the end of the handle. Could this be the pattern you are thinking of?

Actually, it was in the Low catalogue--and I just looked it up again--they call it "National."

Oh I'd love one of them there eagle pieces. Fin-de-siecle flatware with a sense of humor (unintentional, mostly) amuses me no end.
