Snedeker, Rear Commodore: quote: Ladies/Gentlemen- According to a history of our club that was written by a member about 15 years ago this trophy was in fact awarded annually to the winner of races between large Class A schooners at the 4th of July regatta; names of the winners were apparently engraved directly onto the trophy; at some point, probably by 1920, racing among such large yachts ceased and the trophy was retired; It remained on display at the club until the early 1980s when, regrettably, it was stolen along with a number of other silver trophies. As this coincided with a period of skyrocketing prices for precious metals, the presumption is that these trophies were melted for scrap resale.
