Hi All,

Here is a fun thing I noticed when I bought the attached spoon in Whiting's LOUIS XV pattern. Through he vagaries of mark striking, the top half of the Whiting trademark is much more pronounced than the bottom. As such, it clearly looks like "925", with the griffin head as the 9, the wing as the 2, and the tail as the 5. This phenomenon is not clear in most stamps of the mark, nor in the official printed trademark used in advertising, but I would bet that it is not accidental. Maybe the designer of the trademark started improvising on the form of 925 and came up with a griffin? Anyway, I think it is a fun finding!

Very cool. Your vision is very clear. It's also interesting to see what marks morph into when you stare at them under a loupe for a long period of time.

You would surely lose that bet were the facts uncovered, just as those who saw the astonishing 'face' in the Mars photos were mistaken.
