[26-1004]

Please help. I bought this quiat salt cellar and I am not sure of the hallmark. The 925 denotes sterling but I have never come across the other hallmark. It's either a reverse C over a W, or a M over a C. all within an eight pointed star. Perhaps the c is a worn D or O. Can anyone give me an idea of age.

Thanks in advance.

My elderly Rainwater lists only the 8-pointed star without initials as the mark of Howard & Cockshaw, in business in New York City in the early 1900s; Herbert Cockshaw successor in 1915. Something to look into anyway....

It looks possible that this mark is hand engraved rather than stamped?
If so it limits the ability of finding it as one might asume that the maker was a very small producer (student?). An image of the whole peice would help to get closer to its origins...
