[01-1012]

Here are some photos of a spoon that I have been unable to find out the maker or the pattern.

I was hoping someone might recognize it?

The overall design reminds me of an arrow with the handle being like feathers and the bowl being like an arrowhead. It is almost 6 inches long. The pointed tip makes me think this is a grapefruit spoon, but I suppose it could also be a handmade showpiece by a skilled silversmith given all of the hand engraved accenting - maybe an arts and crafts smith?

As you see in the photos, the only markings are 925 STERLING 1000.

I have a spoon with a similar twisted stem and the same mark. Both Turner and Rainwater show Fessenden using that mark. Gorham made a pattern called Leaf that looks very much like yours. The bowl shape is for citrus or melon. Most pieces that I've seen with this styling have been late Victorian.

Cheryl is absolutely right; the mark is that of Fessenden & Co. of Providence, RI, working from 1858 to 1922. I would date the spoon to the late 1860's to early 1880's.

I hope this helps!

Possibility (probability) that this was not a full line pattern. It may have never had an actual name, just a number or description in their catalogs. I'd probably just describe it as engraved leaf or feather.

Looks like it might have originally had a gold wash on the bowl. Very pretty, I'm a sucker for engraved designs like that!
