The following image is from a Kerr buckle.

I see this face and other similar faces appear in silver motifs.

It is often referred to as "Green Man".

Why? What is the mythology?

The "Green Man" is a very early Celtic pagan figure symbolizing spring and the rebirth of life (vegetation) that occurs. The design around the head is intended to be green branches and leaves.

I am privileged to have seen an extremely early stone version of the green man in a castle ruin in County Tipperary, Ireland.
