We found this small bread tray at a flea market this weekend and do not recognize the makers mark. I pictured the mark in two ways as I really do not know what is up or down. I suspect it was a silversmith from Baltimore probably from the first half of the 20th century.
Does anyone recognize the mark?

Reached out to some Baltimore friends and got the following:

quote:
Stieff crown mark from before 1929. Founded in 1892 as the Baltimore sterling silver company the early mark was a crown with B, later a crown with S when it became Stieff.

Thanks June. I had seen that the Baltimore Sterling Co. used a crown and later became Stieff so I thought it would have some connection to them.
Stieff started using date marks in 1901 so the unreadable letter on the mark maybe the letter B as this piece has no date mark. That I think would be when it was still the Baltimore Sterling Silver Co.
I never knew when Stieff started.
