According to Dorothy Rainwater's Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers, it was the William A. Rogers Ltd. company of New York, who used the 1881 Rogers trademark, and after 1910. Rogers is probably the single most important (and confusing) name in American electroplated silver. Many different companies used this name in one way or another, and it became a "sterling standard" for plated silver during the 19th century. The 1881 is not a date--various Rogers firms used dates as part of their trademarks. "1847 Rogers" is the most famous of these--but this was an entirely different company.

I too have have a Rogers 1881 but I have a vase shaped similar to a bucket. But mine says 1881 rogers CANADA. And it has an E.P.S.N number of 1130. Its made of some weird metal and its almost like some crocheted metal. Does anybody have an idea on this?
