Can anyone give me information about a company that started in New York State in 1892? The name is "Silver Metal Mfg. Co." I would like to know if it is still in business or who bought it if anyone.

Thank you.

Although I have only Rainwater's Encyclopedia to go on, it doesn't look like that firm made it past infancy, given the nature of the entry. You might call the people at the Oswego County Historical Society, and see if they know anything. Oswego was always a small city, and if this company had any history at all, it will be known there.

A little searching and this popped up:

Ernest E. Van Buren was born March 23, 1860; he married March 1, 1892, to Olive H. Wheeler of Oswego; he served as under-sheriff with his brother John, at one time sheriff of Oswego county. At the expiration of his term he entered into the drug business associated with Chris Vowinkel. At the time of his marriage he became one of the organizers of The Silver Metal Works of Oswego, which after two years was destroyed by fire. Soon after he took up residence on the family homestead farm, which he acquired by legacy and purchase, and where he maintained his residence up to the time of his death, and following the occupation of a farmer.
