What sort of questions or comments do you envision as being suitable for this forum?

When Scott asked me to moderate this forum, the idea--his and mine, I think--was that it would be a place for people to ask museum-related questions: collecting, care, research, exhibition, interpretation. I think it was also a place where information about silver in museums--collecting, exhibitions, etc., could be broadcast.

I'm not sure there is a precise definition to that question, because I also expected a certain amount of "ask the expert" queries--some of which Scott has flipped over into the general silver forum. Curators are, generally speaking, more broad in their focus that dealers and collectors--which is to say that our "expertise" can be broad but often rather thin. We can often, I think, answer cultural questions related to silver because we tend to see silver in a bigger context (in my case the whole of the decorative arts) than a more focused collector or dealer. The bottom line is, you can ask any question. Scott will be watching to see if I can handle it, and if he thinks it best, he can turn it over to the general forum, or one of the more specific forums, where the answer might best be found.
