Could you give me some info on the above identification marking on a piece of silver. Marked "SHEFFIELD" "SILVERONCOPPER" and four hallmarks in separate squares "star" "Lion" "heart" and "Lion". The lion is rampant and facing to the right. How do you know if this is electroplate or the old sheffield process of making plate. Thanks George

My thought is that this is 20th century, and electroplated. And probably American. The biggest clue is the "Silver on Copper" mark.In fact, the other hallmarks are probably meaningless, and are "pseudo hallmarks," commonly used to evoke the sterling hallmarks. The use of the term "Sheffield" also suggests that it in fact was not made in Sheffield, but was made in the USA, and marketed to AMericans who knew "old Sheffield type plate" and thus would be interested in this. I do not recognize the marks.
