I have this big coffee or tea set marked Reed & Barton
With 5 pieces and a big tray.
It has these marks on different parts of the handles,
One is an (M) the other ones are numbers
2744 24
And the rest said
MFD &-PLATED and a number that could be 51
REED BARTON PATED DEC. 10.18 after it may be a 6 or an 8
I would like to know if somebody could help me to find out
How old it is?.

Thanks

It looks like you have a plated set from the 1880s--when Reed & Barton produced a huge quantity of flashy plated goods. The patent mark is key, because it specifies when they got the design patent on the set you have. This was common for plated silver producers in the 1870s and 80s.

The Newark public library has the complete 1884 Reed and Barton catalogue, and you might be able to find your set there--if they have had the catalogue photographed.
