One more question today......
I also have a water pitcher that my Mother received from a Little Rock jewelery store as a wedding gift in 1953 (my grandparents did lots of business with the store).
The only stamps on it are: England, 24, and what looks like a circle with a 7-candle candelabra in it. The circle has two tails below it. I've looked on the UK hallmark sites and don't see anything like it. I don't know if that means it must be silverplate and not sterling. The pitcher has a very detailed engraved pattern in it. Do you know how I might identify the marking on it?

The mark you described was used by Ellis Barker Silver Companies of Birmingham, England and New York, New York. The company used different marks for different types of articles. The menorah within a wreath was used for tea and coffee services along with many other items. The articles I have seen were well made plated items of high quality. I do not know if they made sterling pieces and I do know that they would be marked sterling or with the appropriate halmarks if made in England.

Thank you for your reply. My first instinct was to refer to the candelabra as a menorah although I didn't in my email. Your information is very helpful.
