I just purchased an urn at an estate sale, and the only marks it has are "STERLING", #s "2669", and a laurel wreath with a sword. I think this is WATSON. The urn has a date, 1913, comemmorating an event & I believe thast is correct (actually 4 dates, that's the last. Can someone confirm the maker for me? The urn was from "National Biscuit Co." and is an achievement award. Thanks for any information.

The following mark is from:
Wilcox & Wagoner
New York, NY
circa 1904

Wilcox & Wagoner was purchased in 1905 by:
Watson & Newell Co.
Attleboro, MA
1895-1920

The following mark was in use 1905-1920.

What was the achievement award for?

You might contact Nabisco to see if they can tell you something more.

Wasn't it wonderful when people actually gave sterling trophies for achievements? THe Houston Museum of FIne Arts did a great show a decade or so ago called "Marks of Achievement" all about presentation silver in America, from the 17th century to the present. It was pretty cool--but they didn't really deal with "ordinary" trophies...but it's a great reference to understand the whole mind set that produced thousands of sterling loving cups, etc. between 1880 and 1930.
