I have a Silver on Copper Pitcher that is in perfect condition except it needs polishing. On the bottom it has FB Rogers Silver Co. with a crown and 18 on one side of the crown and 83 on the other. then it has Taunton, Mass on it and 7500 under that. Can you tell me anything about this pitcher. And do you have a book or catalog with it. And if you do, how can I purchase it? Thank You. If you do not know the value of such a thing. Are they worth a lot.

I'm not sure why this has become the special electro plate forum--because I don't really know all that much. There are not all that many silver-plate catalogues extant, so the chances of finding a specific piece are slight. Your piece might not be very old at all--the 83 refers to the firm's founding date, and they are still (or were still when Rainwater was revised) in business. Silver on copper is a particular affectation of the 20th century--when old fused plate from Sheffield (which was done over copper) became the vogue to collect, and eletro-platers began to imitate that. Early electroplate was almost always on white metal--a pewter-derived alloy that minimized the difference when the silver wore away. Hence Meriden Britannia was at first a pewter company, and became an eletroplate company, and so on.

Is the FB Rogers Company still in Business Today?

If they are still in business, how can I get in contact with them?

I don't find any trace of them on the internet (I try Google.com and see what happens). They might no longer exist. Rainwater was published in 1969, and revised repeatedly, the version I have being 1998--but I doubt if she checked to see if all the companies were still functioning. You might telephone the Taunton directory information and see if they're still listed.
