These are the marks on my small 3 1/2 inch lilypad shaped candle holders on one is HJNS on the other is HJ followed by a fish symbol. They have five lily shaped leaves with candle space in each one for three tiny candles they look very Art Deco to me but I'm at a loss as to who made these. HELP

Could your item be by Hans Jauchen [or Jouchen} who worked in California ca 1910s-30?

Could the NS be nickle silver?

The letters N S usually do stand for nickel silver, which is used as a base for silver plating. Look carefully at the contact points to see if any base metal is showing through the surface plating.

Are there any other marks on the pieces? Any chance of sending a picture? Any additional information would be useful. In the meantime, I will check my references for other possible HJ's.

Thanks for your response to my inquiry. There is no base mentals showing through. The pod that would hold the candles is approximately 1/4" in diamenter - it would hold three individual candles - this part of the holder appears to have been made separately and then set into the centre of the base which consists of 5 lily type leaves which are approximately 1 1/2" long. Marks appear on the upper side of leaf with the under mark appearing flat. No other marks appear. Sorry I don't have a scanner but will try to get one soon.
Thanks, Hagus11
