I have seen a gorgeous contemporary silver with the signature of Alan Adler/Handmade.

Can anyone enlighten me about this silver craftsman?

Thanks

Alan Adler is a California craftsman and firm that is still very much in operation. They produce a wonderful line of holloware, flatware, and jewelry. For a more in depth article see Magazine Silver issue several months back. They have a website and perhaps someone else here can give you the address.

Try www.allanadler.com. (The Allan has two L's, not one).

In brief, Allan Adler is a national treasure. He was taught silversmithing by his father-in-law, Porter Blanchard, and opened his own shop in 1939, where he has been producing silver ever since. He has made several patterns of flatware, as well as many different lines of holloware and novelties. One of his latest creations is a silver computer mouse!

Your impressions are right on the money; Adler's designs are wonderful. All of his pieces are well worth having. Just be aware that he is still making silver, and there are quite a few pieces in circulation.

I hope this helps. The website will tell you a bit more, as will the article in Silver magazine if you can find it. Try their website at www.silvermag.com and check out the back issues.
