I want to know if Manchester Silver co. is still in business. I have traced them up to 1950. I am desirous to get in touch with them. Thanks.

Better late than never? My search indicates they were bought out by a company named Boardman in 1985.

As long as I've dredged up the subject of Manchester... I have a pair of sugar tongs identical to Manchester's "Pierced Handle"(1951) tongs, but without the typical Crown & Cross mark (I have 2 other pairs with the usual mark). Instead they are stamped inside the bridge with "G/S" in a vertical capsule, then marked "sterling". Has anyone seen this mark before? Here's the promised photo, the mark is so tiny I can only read it with a magnifier. I wonder if someone else purchased and used the Manchester pattern using a new mark?

ONC had some dealings with Boardman in the 1980s. They were originally hollowware makers, but hoped to expand into flatware. I believe that that was the reason they purchased Manchester. As I understand, they couldn't make a go of it and the flatware effort dragged Boardman down the drain.

In the mid-nineties we had a large silver bowl (two feet in diameter) spun by a spinner who had formerly worked at Boardman. Boardman, I belive, when we dealt with them, was located in Connecticut, and the said spinner was there also.
