I came across a nice old salad set today, very simple, Arts & Crafts style, apparently handmade, with the mark "E A DAY" and "STERLING" in block letters. Is anyone familiar with this maker?

Is there any chance this piece could be Canadian?

Hi,

Good question. The most recent ARK Antiques catalog has some jewelry by an Emily A. Day; perhaps this is the same person. In one of my earlier topics titled Really Modern silversmith -BA? from 1/14/01, I show a piece that may be by the same person. When I look at it closely, it looks like the letters EA are superimposed on a DAY.

Finally, I have a piece of handwrought Canadian aluminum by an Albert Day (I think; I need to dig it out). Maybe there is some relationship here.

I'll see what I can come up with!

Sure, there's no reason it couldn't be Canadian. And that "BA" mark does look very similar to the one I saw yesterday ....

I did a Google search for EA Day and found a pin by him/her illustrated, with the mark, at this site: [now gone from the internet - noisyboy.com/fn3146.html]

It ain't exactly Faberge. The salad set I saw yesterday was a bit nicer, though.
