Hi,

Sorry it took me so long to respond; The name seemed familiar, but I couldn't place it until now.

According to "Silver in the Golden State", a William Benbow & Co. were operating as silversmiths in Los Angeles from 1932 to sometime after 1940. No other infromation is given, but they are listed as silversmiths, not just jewelers who may have sold silver made by others. Their work may well have been sold in Arizona, whcih isn't far from LA.

I will let you know if I come up with any more information. I would love to see a picture of the mark, if you can get a digital image of it.

I'll get it on a scanner or draw it and scan. Another Clue: all of the blue felt silver bags that these pieces came in, sized to the pieces have a silver satin label sewn that has a script logo saying "Clay Smith". Is that the name of a retailer? I was also told this was all purchased during visits to the arizona biltmore hotel in scottsdale, arizona.
