Trying to figure out if the maker of my water pitcher is known or not. The mark is JL with a line of writing stamped under it, something like ---- EN ME. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Meer,

My best guess is that your pitcher is actually Mexican. Many pieces of Mexican holloware have an Art Deco feel, as the Mexican silver industry in Taxco really kicked off during the Deco period. The line of writing was probably supposed to read "HECHO EN MEXICO", which translates as Made in Mexico. This phrase is commonly found on Mexican silver.

If you can post a picture of the piece and mark, we might be able to tell you more about it. "JL" does not ring a bell for me. Still, I think it is highly likely that your piece is early-mid 20th century Mexican.

I hope this helps!

Brent
