I have a 1940's-50's Danish modern water pitcher, originally from H. Nils. On the bottom, along with the standard marks, (STERLING DENMARK 925 S) is a mark Ax.S.

I assume that is the maker. Can anyone please tell me what this mark is?

Hello there,

Sorry, but I'm stumped as to who Ax. S might be. There was an Alexander Sturm company in Germany, but I'm not sure if Ax. S would be a proper abbreviation. Unfortunately, it remains difficult to track down modern European silvermakers unless they are very famous and/or prolific.

I will keep hunting; let us know if you find out anything in the meantime. I am curious myself!

I've noticed several queries about Danish maker's marks and thought forum readers might be interested in a website that lists Danish silver marks (19th and 20th C)alphabetically. Only some of the marks have accompanying photos. The address is : www.nobelantik.dk/2solv_maerker.html
