I am trying to identyify sterling spoons, very plain with a monagram, that have an indian head facing left & a D for a mark. The Indian has long hair and one feather pointing back. The word sterling is in a scroll type box with three ball type florets. Not sure how to describe it. Any one know anything about this mark? Thanks Pamela

The "standard" reference of marks for silver manufacturers is Rainwater and Redfield's Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers. They show two marks that are similar to what you describe - one by Wilcox & Evertsen and the other by Meriden Brittania Co. Meriden purchased W&E in 1896 and Meriden later consolidated with International Silver Co. as part of the conglomerate that became the International Silver Co. that was so popular in the middle of the 20th century!

Neither of these is accompanied by a D, both could carry the sterling mark but you would need to see the depiction of the marks to tell.

WE would need to see a pic to help you further than that!
