This is a baby spoon with a bunny handle by Blanchard. It is marked sterling/porter blanchard/handmade. My camera can't get a good pic of the signature.

Wonderful piece! Wonder who Lectra was, an unusual name.

I am not certain who the originator of this design was. Lewis Wise was a silversmith who made this identical spoon with a hammered texture. It would be interesting to see which silversmith copied the design of the other. Research tells me that Wise and Blanchard are connected by marriage.

Seems that this design was also in the inventory of Allan Adler.

The following was taken from a listing of a recent symposium on California silver.

"Cynthia Adler, an accomplished silversmith in her own right, was supposed to speak about the work of her grandfather, Porter Blanchard, her father Allan Adler, and her uncles Lewis Wise and Kenneth Adler."

Fred, Lewis Wise and Alan Adler were Blanchard's sons-in-law. Wise's son visited us a few years ago. So that design was used throughout the family, I'd say.
