I have noticed a few examples of Mixed metal serving pieces done in an Aesthetic Movement style. They are marked KRR and STERLING. The bowls tend to be shell forms and the silver stem is usually wraped with a copper wire and then decorated with an applied cast crab or someother nautical creature.

These items are obviously recently made and seem to be demanding a fairly high price. I am surprised since the craftsmanship is not high. I am constantly looking at the market to see what trends seem to draw attention from the public.

Does anyone know who is making these items? What is the draw to them? I could understand if they showed sensitivity to design and execution. I have admired many of the items of the Aesthetic Movement and drooled at the craftsmanship and use of metals and finishes.

This is my rant for the day.

Do you have pictures? That would be great.

Dale,

The items have all appeared on our favorite internet auction house. I do not want to use their image without permission. Perhaps I can find another site that is selling.

Actually you can use advertizing pictures and press releases without problems. The pictures are not owned by the person putting them up. You are simply spreading the word about their product, which is beneficial to a seller.

The one piece that I found in completed auctions was listed by a seller with those initials in their ID, why not just contact them?

I did see that about the seller. I best contact them and see if they are the folks making the pieces.

I have seen these pieces and am sure that the seller is producing them. The method of listing these "Aesthetic" pieces seems kind of sheisty in that the seller does not mention who produces the spoons, only that they are new. If I were an artist, I would want to claim ownership of my work. This seller also usually sells antique flatware, so these new pieces may be confused with old, if the buyer does not read the description closely enough. The intent here seems to be to make a profit, not to be a craftsman.

I have made an attempt to contact the seller and have received no responce as of yet. Paul, I feel your evaluation is right and that this is a venture to make money and not an attempt of creating something honouring the Aestetic Movement.
