Riding the bus to work last week, I met someone who works in metal. As we talked I mentioned silver. He explained that he uses some silver in his work but mostly stainless steel. Here is a trophy made for Penthouse magazine, awarded at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in the Dakotas.

The artist is named Roger Van Winter. Roger does some small silver jewelry but mainly uses silver as an accent. In the above trophy, the arm is from a mannequin. The silver is set in the arm to suggest jailhouse tattooing. Here is pic of Roger working on his dagger table:

And here is the dagger table:

Currently, Roger designs shoes for the Ed Hardy line. Here is his design philosophy:

'My design philosophy is simple...Make it strong in character as well as construction.

Metal, music & mayhem are three key ingredients in the inspiration of my latest creations.

Any metal looks best when reflecting the brilliant glow of a neon tube, thus I have incorporated this type of lighting into many of my pieces. I hope you enjoy.'

Roger is a real friendly guy. His marking system is to etch his name and add a TM. He was unfamiliar with stamped markings. He uses silver as an accent in some of his work.
