I just received this handsome placespoon marked H. Noyes. I would judge the piece to be c 1815-1820 by style, but have not found any listings for this maker in my references. Has anyone knowledge of this smith or other examples of his work? wev IP: Logged |

The M. Noyes you mention is Morillo Noyes of Burlington VT. He was originally in partnership with William Vilas as Vilas & Noyes, suceeding, in 1844, Vilas, Loomis & Co. They continued as partners till 1848, when Noyes bought out Vilas' interest and renamed the firm Noyes & Co. Noyes was born to Breed Noyes and Sarah Keeler of Hyde Park VT on 14 Oct 1820. He married Catherine Haswell of Burlington on 07 Nov 1849. I haven't found any connection between Morillo and my untraced H. Noyes, who apparently was working a generation earlier. IP: Logged |
