Some months ago I was sent an e-mail by a user with an attached very good photo of 8 pieces of flatware. The photo file size was 247k compressed 3.18 meg uncompressed which is much too large for posting. I helped them edit the file into two smaller images of 27k and 30k each. I then sent the photos back to them and forgot about it.

I was cleaning thing up and rediscovered the photos. The user never posted the photos and question. What follows is their question -- Have fun!

Does anyone know any of the names/makers of my unknown coin silver die-stamped pieces? Thanks.

It would have been helpful to have received photos or information about the marks .....

Actually, I think this is posted as a topic somewhere else on the forums, but anyway:

  1. incised HASLETT & KENNEDY (retailer), no other marks;
  2. stampeded COIN, no other marks;
  3. marked C & R, with the ampersand in long diamond for Coles & Reynolds and the number 26--I'm after the pattern name only;
  4. incised I. GARRISON (retailer), no other marks;
  5. incised COIN, no other marks. This pattern is now known to be made by both Wood & Hughes and Gorham. The W&H pattern name is still unknown.
  6. stamped PURE COIN and PATENT, leading one to believe that it was made by either Newell Harding or Farrington & Hunnewell--no other marks;
  7. the knife is part of a youth set all stamped COIN, but I've a sugar shell stamped STERLING. No other marks;
  8. I have 6 pieces of this pattern and all of them are stamped COIN and a single-digit number.

No other marks. As you see, the marks are not all that helpful. Any further information would be most welcome.

Though it doesn't aid in pinning down the maker, I thought somebody might be interested in seeing a fish set I have in pattern #7.

It's only marked sterling. The top part is applied separately to the rod, and the decoration on the rod is applied as well. One might say the construction is slightly crude.
