I lately had the opportunity to borrow a copy of the 1798 City Directory for Philadelphia from a generous local book dealer. The following is a list of the city's gold and silversmiths, engravers, jewelers, and watchmakers, which, given the rarity of the book, I thought worth posting. Familiar and expected makers are there (Chaudron, Gethem, Lamar, Richardson, Wiltberger, etc), as well as a number that are new to me.

Also included is a table of values for gold and silver currency and the purity standards which were established by statute that year.
