As a non specialist in the non UK Silver area can anyone throw light on a silver mark on an apparently late 18xx to early 19xx pair of salad servers - country of origin unknown, but not a UK mark.

The Mark is:-
WH in a round form
then & in a shield form
then S in an oval

this is followed by what seems to be a B in an offset oval
Then a complex B or crown like mark in a square form.

The final mark is an MP above an A in what would best be described as an approximately an inverted Fleur de Lis shape.

Any help appreciated

Clive.

Suggested links to American and non UK European Hallmark illustration sites would be appreciated too

Actually, I suspect the pieces are English; the mark sounds like William Hutton & Sons of Birmingham (c 1800-1832) and Sheffield (1832-1930). They made extensive lines of nickel, britannia, and electro-plated wares, as well as steel cutlery and sterling. The long string of marks was typically used on non-sterling goods to give them a bit of cache; the B in a box probably indicates Britannia metal.
