I inherited 4 coin silver stuffing spoons. I understand there were two McConnell's, one from Philadelphia and one from Delaware. These just say the name - no embellishments. Can anyone tell me the difference between the two maker's marks? They are lovely spoons I am lucky to have. Thanks, Linda

Here is the mark shown in Belden for Thomas McConnell of Wilmington DE and Richmond VA:

Unfortunately, they follow this by saying that the same mark may have been used by Hugh McConnell of Philadelphia as well. Half of the items in their collection ( an eight piece tea set of Delaware provenance dated 1806) are marked with this mark; the rest are marked by Peter Krider of Philadelphia.

Is this the mark on your spoons?

Yes, this is the mark! I suspect they are from Wilmington because she lived her whole life in Wilmington. On the other hand, she also collected Caldwell silver, so it could be Philadelphia. Thanks, Linda
P.S. I have another challenge for you. See next question.
