WEV,

I have not died but have gone to heaven... I stopped by a small antique store a few weeks ago and seeing no silver at all started to leave, when the counter person ask if they could help me. I asked about Coin Silver, and he said he had not been asked for Coin in twenty years and if i want them, he had a large plastic storage bin full.

My eyes bugged out when he produced a box with several hundred pieces in it. I have been spending most of my time trying to go through this pile for the past couple of weeks.

Needless to say I have added quite a few to my collection, but have about 100 to 150 I cannot identify. I will be asking Lisa to photo them to send them along for viewing.

I have managed to acquire about 300 extras I will need to get rid of (he had a number of sets and did not want to break them up) or Lisa will put me out of the house.

As you can guess thee were a large number of common makers, unmarked pieces and a number duplicates.

I have purchased all that appear to be pre 1800 even if duplicated, and will make them available when identified.

Any suggestions on different condition issues like Splits bowl's, Dents, Pitting, and Bent handles.... This pile had / has them all...

Will be going back over the holidays to continue going through them, but my daughter is getting married and I have to go to Houston in two weeks for the wedding. I hope to have all of them worth keeping sorted and purchased from him...

I will let you know as soon as I can get through it all, its a bit overwhelming for the moment...

Just the kind of problems I like…

Light at the end of the tunnel.... the counts, 124 identified makers added to the collection... 84 unidentified makers marks (Lisa will begin photos tomorrow for sharing), and some 421 peices that I already had examples of that will soon go up for sale (Or Lisa will stop speaking to me).

My eyes hurt but I feel so satisfied... :-)

I will need to try to load the pictures by a simple numbering system so that the picture of the fornt, the back and a closeup of the marks on a server I have rented space on. I will include the URL for each, and hope that will allow all to see and possibly identify some of these Mysteries...
