Here is a pair of marks I have always wondered about. The first is the well-known mark of Theophilus Bradbury of Newburyport. Second is a mark attributed to George Greenleaf, working in the same town, but a generation later.

Was this a family arrangement, a helping hand from one cousin (albeit 4th) to another? Or a bit of nineteenth century trademark infringement, the new lad riding the coat-tails of the well-established maker? Is this what led to Greenleaf's more common G GREENLEAF mark? Did Joseph Perkins, who almost certainly cut the first, also cut the second?
