EBay Item number 3714196562 is interesting as it is described as an 8" Swedish .830 silver serving spoon with a flower basket design on the fiddle handle. The X2 date mark is stated as representing 1804. The basket of flowers design looks to me like a forerunner to the America baskets that I understand appeared some 15 years later. The literature that I have states that the Basket of Flowers pattern was the first American design. Is this statement a myth and did the idea come from the Swedes?

SILVER SERVING SPOON Flower Basket Handle appl bowl

Being offered is an 8" Swedish .830 silver serving spoon with an embossed flower basket design on the fiddle handle. The X2 date mark is 1804, Frodell was the maker, the right facing Queen mark was used 1715-1850. The workmanship is excellent and made with a heavy gauge silver. The back of the bowl is swaged, made to appear that it is an applied bowl. The front of the handle has a period I W monogram in block lettering and reverse has a S I D light scratched in block lettering. The condition is good, showing minor wear and in need of polishing.

..The X2 date mark is stated as representing 1804.
That is correct. The "Queen" mark is for the city of Stockholm for that period - it is the likeness of St. Erik, the city's patron saint or the like.

As regards the origin of the pattern, I happily defer to more knowledgeable people.

Can you provide the source of that statement? It would be helpful to know the exact wording or context in which it appears.
