I've got an exquisite bright cut fish server and the maker's mark is FFQUINTARD (I'd post a picture but the camera broke yesterday!) The well known early silversmith is Peter Quintard (1699 - 1762), but I haven't been able to find any reference to an F F Quintard. I doubt if the piece is from the 18th century, I would have said mid 19th., so it is doubtful "FF" is a son. Any ideas?

Yup, I ovelooked him in Kovels too, c 1843. Any information on the relationship to Peter? And Wev, I'm not familiar with Darling, could you give the full citation? Thanks awfully, doc
PS you guys have been tremendously helpful with my questions of late, I'm very grateful.

New York State Silversmiths The Darling Foundation, 1964.

I have not been able to determine who F. F. is yet, so can not trace his connection to Peter's line.

There is a Frederick F Quintard who was born in Connecticut in about 1834. At this point Norwalk seems the most likely location for his birth. He shows up in the 1860 U S Federal Census for Poughkeepsie, New York as a jeweler, and he is listed in the IRS tax assessments during the 1860's in Poughkeepsie as a retail jeweler with the name Fred, Frederick and F F Quintard.

Also there is an Edward Quintard who is a jeweler in Poughkeepsie in the 1890's at the 316 Main Street address.

Frederick Francis, the brother of the jewelers Charles and William Quintard, was born in Norwalk on 26 Feb 1837. He died in Poughkeepsie in 1869.
