If any of our members has a Mississippi reference, I would appreciate any details of the career of the jeweler William Adriance, son of the silversmith Charles Platt Adriance.

From Nineteenth-century Silver in Natchez by H. Parrott Bacot and Bethany B. Lambden, Antiques, March 1971:

quote:
It appears from the records of the local Presbyterian church that William accompanied his father to Poughkeepsie and lived there for one or two years before going to Natchez: his membership was transferred from the Poughkeepsie church to the church in Natchez on April 27, 1838. Both William and his son were dismissed to the church at Poughkeepsie on June 5, 1841. The few pieces of Adriance silver discovered thus far are marked Wm. ADRIANCE & Co. No documents concerning the other members of the firm have thus far come to light.

They state that William was active in Natchez from 1834 - 1841.

It may be of some interest that the William Adriance in this topic appears to have resided in St Louis, Missouri at least between 1850 and 1860. He is listed there as a merchant and includes fancy goods amongst his stock. Family members list his children Stewart Winchester and Mary E Adriance as being born in St Louis. William is in two U. S. Federal Census's in St Louis and also in Kennedy's 1860 St Louis City Directory.
