Hello all,

Here is a mark that has me a bit stumped. The piece is a nice tablespoon with exaggeratedly large round shoulders, and a rounded down turned fiddle handle. Nearly identical spoons were made in and around Cincinnati, OH in the 1820s and 30s. Not to say that it couldn't have been made elsewhere, but the big shoulders are distinctive, and the spoon did emerge for sale in Cincinnati. However, the rather crude and shallow SR mark is not recorded anywhere that I could find, and there are no Ohio or Kentucky silversmiths in my references with these initials, at least not working ca. 1830. Does anyone know the mark? Maybe western Pennsylvania or Virginia?

Another bump from the past. I still think this is likely from Kentucky or Ohio, but no one fits.

This is a terribly long shot, but there was a jeweler named Sanford Ramsey who was born in 1813 in Ohio and is listed in the 1880 U S Federal Census for Pataskala, Licking County, Ohio.
