Quite literally. I’m sure we all have that bag of odd little pieces of silver. I was going through mine recently and ran across this spoon I’ve had for decades. Every time I see it, I try to look up the mark, never with any success. Admittedly (as everyone here knows) my forte is Continental silver, but I do have access to at least the fundamental American references – including, of course, wev’s great site.

But I’ve never had any luck with this one: “CY”. It’s on a perfectly ordinary little late 18th/early 19th century spoon with broad pointed handle and incised “V” drop. Any ideas?

Charles Young, Chambersburg, PA., w. 1791 - 1833. Good find. Pretty Rare.

Thanks, swarter! I knew it wouldn't take long. Maybe I'll rummage around in the same bag and see if I have any other American puzzles that need solving.

Well, this one's pretty special. It deserves being elevated to a better place than the bottom of a bag! Keep digging - maybe you will unearth another treasure or two.
Good pictures, BTW.
