I'll spare the details this time around, but all four of Pennsylvania born William W True's sons followed him in the jewelry trade in Michigan in the 1880's. Herbert, Frank, Fred and Charles.

Unless there is another William W. True, I think this is fiddled a bit.

The Frank True and brother Charles who were jewelers are enumerated in Evart, Osceola, Michigan and their parents were born in NY.

Wm W. True and his wife Rowena are in Flint and were born in New Hampshire and Vermont, respectively. Their son Fred is also listed without occupation.

I don't see a Herbert at all.

It is without question that all four sons who show up together in the 1870 census for Flint were jewelers. Herbert was listed as E Herbert until 1880 when he was listed as Eugene H. At that time he was listed as a jeweler in Montrose, Pennsylvania which was his place of birth. E Herbert or Eugene H was later listed as just E H True. Fred B does not show up in the Flint City Directories as a jeweler until after William was no longer listed which was 1893. Fred was also listed in the 1900 census as a jeweler.

In 1850 William H, wife and daughter were in the census in Montrose, Pennsylvania.
Montrose was also given as William's place of nativity in a biographical sketch specifically concerning Frank. William was listed in the census's as being born in Pennsylvania in 1850 and 1860 and in 1870 Massachusetts. He either didn't care where he was listed or just didn't have any control over how it was recorded. In 1900, his wife and children at home gave his birthplace as Pennsylvania for the census. Even if you don't agree, hopefully, you can at least see where the Pennsyvania location came into the picture.
