We recently received a set of random silver pieces from a customer for us to refinish. One very attractive sugar shell is stamped on the back "Kimball& Gould". Were they makers or retailers and where located?

Leverett Kimball and Charles E. Gould, 1857-1861 at Haverhill MA. While Kimball advertised as a silversmith, he was generally a jewelry and fancy goods merchant. Charles Gould is listed in the 1850 census as a silversmith.

Any chance of getting a good picture of the mark?

You can tack a few more years on this partnership. They are listed in Greenough's directory Of The City Of Haverhill For 1869-70 as silversmiths & etc.

I've enclosed a picture of the spoon, but for the life of me, I could not get a focused shot of the stamp. However, it is just as I wrote it in my opening of the thread.

Hi Middletom!

I've been meaning to congratulate you on your ability to do photos, I am still trying.

Try using a magnifying glass, although the mark is available on the web to see, (assuming it is the same).

Stay warm!

Jersey,
I can see the mark well and when I first focus my camera onto it, the mark shows up well but then, for some reason, it goes out of focus and I can't catch a picture before the focus is lost.

I am warm.
