My daughter has this spoon and I do not quite know what to make of it. The letter R is above what looks like a can with a lid and that is above a saw. Were these made as autograph spoons where one would buy one with their letter on the top?

I have no idea why a can is one the same spoon with a saw.

Any ideas?

I think the term is "rebus."

Thanks Polly - that is a great way to make a souvenir spoon. I will have to look for others of that type.

My daughter has a nice collection of souvenir spoons, however that is the only "rebus" one.

Very nice! Always liked this one, being a native Arkansawyer myself. (Which is what we're called, btw; I don't care what anyone says, not even Bill Clinton, God bless him.)

There was a nice article by Robert M. Wilhelm about rebus souvenir spoons in the March/April 2009 issue of Silver Magazine. This spoon was prominently featured.
