Great list! It is good to be able to identify the retailers who often put their marks on silver, and these old city directories are a gold mine of information.

Thanks, WEV, for confirming something that I had long heard only as rumor--that Gordon & Co. were indeed silversmiths. In 1850 they patented a die-struck GRAPE pattern, but they could have been working for another Boston firm when they did so. Now I know differently.
