After seeing that very cool childs cup Polly found (Is this cup by Wood & Hughes? Is it coin?) I decided to hunt for fun, too.

I did not win the following item (silver sniper swooped in in the last ten seconds). I want to know what you would have thought about the following item. I thought it was coin silver from the 1840-1860, possibly earlier. There are several 'Fellows' listed in my resources. Please read the description and look at the item's available pictures. The mark was not shown. The item was listed as between 1900-1940 and this was the only silver item I saw that the seller had. ie: He was not a silver dealer.

What would you have thought? Do you think I guessed right or wrong? If you think my gut feeling may have been right maybe next time I will be a little more bold about it.

From a completed auction entitled:

7-1/4 Claw Foot Tongs..FELLOWS..Sterling? Coin Silver?

Marked 'FELLOWS' and measuring approx. 7-1/4" long, these silver ?? or maybe coin silver ?? tongs are in excellent condition. They have birds claw feet at the ends and an monogram of what appears to be 'MMW' (actually looks like an ornate scroll). Vintage, these would make a nice little gift idea.

Outwest, Your gut feeling was correct and these tongs are coin and were probably made by Abraham Fellows in one of his various locations in New York prior to 1850. The seller was wrong about his 1900-1940 date.

Thanks, Tad.
The seller was from the New York area, too. But, I thought Fellows included the A. in his punch?
